Kuan Yin is a beloved Eastern Goddess of Compassion. She is both a goddess and a bodhisattva (“enlightened being”) who devoted herself to helping all humans reach a state of enlightenment. Kuan Yin goes by many names and is similar to the Christian Mother Mary and the Tibetan Buddhist Goddess Tara. Kuan Yin provides mercy, compassion, protection, kindness and love to all those who call upon her.
In Buddhist mythology, Kuan Yin was born from a ray of light that sprang from Amitabha Buddha’s right eye. He immediately said, “Om Mani Padme Hum” ( a Sanskrit mantra that can be used to invoke the power of Kuan Yin). This Goddess has been represented with many arms, many heads, many hands and/or many eyes. As someone who sees all and can hold all, she is the source and sustenance of all things, fully embodying the mother energy. It said that when Kuan Yin could enter Nirvana or Heaven, she could hear the cries of those who suffered and she chose to stay behind until all beings were enlightened and freed from the suffering and pain of the birth, death, rebirth cycle.
Kuan Yin can help with compassion, giving and receiving love, protection, spiritual enlightenment, kindness and feminine grace and power.
At this time, Kuan Yin encourages you to embrace the darkness of winter to look within at the Shadow self. Just as spring and light are born again from the cold months, a greater light within you is waiting to be revealed from this exploration of your Shadow. Although it may be scary, what can come out of it will bring great joy and benefits to your life.
